How it works
The valve draws a pocket of air into the top of the tank. Water passes through the air, which oxidizes iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide into particles, and the media bed filters them out. Every day the valve backwashes the bed, sends the trapped particles to drain and refreshes the air pocket.
Media benefits
- Removes iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg smell) in one tank
- Handles high flow rates in a compact tank
- Long media life
- Backwashes the trapped particles to drain automatically
- Air injection oxidizes iron, manganese and sulfur with plain air, so no chemicals or chlorine are added
Why this system costs what it does

| Filter design | Automatic daily backwash keeps the media bed clean | Often a non-backwashing upflow head or a cartridge housing |
| Bypass valve | Included | Often not included or an extra option |
| Media | Named media, sized to the tank | Media type or amount often not stated |
| Delivery | Ships pre-built, ready to install | Often ships in pieces for you to assemble and load |

Advanced Media at Scale
Katalox-Light® is built for difficult water, removing a broad spectrum of metals and sulfur compounds without potassium permanganate or chlorine. It offers low pressure loss, high flow and service rates, and high bed loadings with infrequent backwash — typically 5 to 10 minutes at 5.5 gpm per square foot, with operation up to 12 gpm per square foot. Air injection oxidation feeds the bed, and Control Flow Technology meters regeneration to your actual usage for efficiency.
The large 13-inch tank delivers the flow capacity big households need to run multiple fixtures simultaneously. Installed at the point of entry and supplied by Water Softener Plus, this system provides comprehensive, efficient treatment delivered straight to your door — just add the plumbing adapters that fit your connections to finish the job and start enjoying cleaner whole-house water.
Plan the installation at the point of entry so all incoming water is treated before reaching fixtures, the water heater, or any downstream softener. The Katalox-Light media bed benefits from a stable backwash flow, so size your drain line accordingly and ensure adequate water pressure for the periodic rinse. Because the media handles several contaminants at once, this single system can often replace a more complicated multi-stage setup, simplifying both the install and long-term upkeep.
Whether you are upgrading aging equipment or treating a new well for the first time, this system from Water Softener Plus offers a proven, low-fuss path to cleaner water, backed by the trusted engineering behind every component in the package.
