How it works
The valve draws a pocket of air into the top of the tank. Water passes through the air, which oxidizes iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide into particles, and the media bed filters them out. Every day the valve backwashes the bed, sends the trapped particles to drain and refreshes the air pocket.
Media benefits
- Removes dissolved iron: clear water with no orange or brown stains
- Protects fixtures, laundry, water heaters and appliances
- Daily automatic backwash sends the trapped iron to drain
- Air injection oxidizes iron, manganese and sulfur with plain air, so no chemicals or chlorine are added
Why this system costs what it does
| This system | Typical lower-priced kits | |
|---|---|---|
| Iron and sulfur treatment | Air injection: oxidizes with plain air, no chemicals | Often chlorine or permanganate feed, or no oxidation step |
| Filter design | Automatic daily backwash keeps the media bed clean | Often a non-backwashing upflow head or a cartridge housing |
| Bypass valve | Included | Often not included or an extra option |
| Media | Named media, sized to the tank | Media type or amount often not stated |
| Delivery | Ships pre-built, ready to install | Often ships in pieces for you to assemble and load |

Stepping up to a taller tank, the NWS Control Flow AIO 10"x54" Iron System gives ' metered iron filtration extra media capacity and additional backwash headroom. The 10" x 54" polyglass tank carries 1-1/4 cubic feet of iron-reduction media, making it a strong fit for homes with moderate iron levels and steady, everyday water demand.
Air injection oxidation handles the chemistry: an air pocket converts dissolved iron into filterable particles, which the media bed traps and the metered backwash then flushes away. Control Flow Technology ties regeneration to real water usage, so the system stays efficient rather than running on a fixed schedule. No salt or chemicals are needed, keeping both upkeep and operating costs low for the homeowner.
- 1-1/4 cubic feet of iron media for added capacity
- 10" x 54" black polyglass mineral tank
- 1" NWS metered control valve with Control Flow Technology
- Base media and bypass valve included
- Plumbing adapters selected separately; optional tank jacket available
- Approximate shipping weight: 96 lbs
Taller Tank Advantage
The 54-inch height provides greater freeboard, allowing the media bed to expand fully during backwash for thorough cleaning and longer media life. As a point-of-entry filter, it protects plumbing, appliances, and fixtures from iron staining throughout the home. The optional tank jacket can give the installation a more finished appearance in visible mechanical rooms. Supplied by Water Softener Plus, the system ships nearly complete — add the adapters that fit your lines — for efficient, low-maintenance, salt-free iron removal.
Before installation, it is worth testing your water to confirm iron concentration and pH, since air injection performs best within typical residential ranges. Position the unit on a level surface near your main supply line and a suitable drain, and allow clearance above the tank so the control valve can be serviced. Many installers pair an AIO iron filter with a downstream sediment filter or softener for the most polished result, and this platform integrates easily into such a treatment train.
From the control valve to the media bed, every part of this Water Softener Plus system is selected to work together reliably, so once it is installed and dialed in you can simply enjoy the improvement in your water without thinking about it.
